I had in mind a lightwieght, manouverable aicraft that could operate from near the front line with minimal logistical infrastructure, supporting ground troops with its big anti-armour cannon and target-designation laser. And that looked really cool, obviously.

Immediately recognizable as similar role to the Sadler Piranha, made by Sadler Corporation. Some people call the aircraft that have this general role by the name of "killer bees." It is foolish, but the US does not use them anymore, not for decades. They are not prestigious enough.

well wouldnt it be better to make the gun under the middle sction of your fighter?^^ i mean there could be some balancing and aerodynamic porblems...

You're probably right. There's another weapon on the other side to balance it out a bit, but you're probably right anyway. I have to say aesthetic considerations massively outweighed technical accuracy on this one.
Also, I guess I was influenced by a lot of Japanese flying mecha designs, especially the Macross fighters, some of which are horribly unaerodynamic but somehow look more sexy and high-tech as a result.

Very cool. Reminds me a bit of a G.I. Joe toy I had as a kid. This gives me a nostalgic feeling :D

Thanks! I know what you mean about it looking a bit like a toy. I think the bright colours and plastic-y shading somehow give it that feel. Not in a bad way. I like toys.

Actually, I didn't mean toy-like in terms of the colors and plastic-y shading. I meant the actual design of it :)

I found the toy I was remembering: [link]

Did you copy it? ;)

Just kidding =p

Thanks for the link. Yeah, I can see the resemblance. Escpecially in the tail.
Why the hell is the pilot dressed in that horrible shade of magenta?
GI Joe toys are weird. Some of the figures are costumed and equipped like real-world military, and then some of them are like this guy, in pink spandex. It's a strange and somehow unwholesome mixture.
