Design for a futuristic light tank. My graphics tablet has died, hence the crude mouse-drawn brushwork. A new tablet is in the post.

The "Manta" Light tank is designed for recon / patrol duties or as a cheap main battle tank for low-budget armies. The two crew (driver/commander and systems officer) sit side-by-side in the hull, in front of the fully automated turret.
Armament consists of a 30mm hypervelocity railgun, two 8mm caseless machine guns, and two eight-barrel 40mm grenade launchers mounted in cupolas on either side of the main turret.
The hedgetrimmer-looking thing at the front is a mechanical cutter designed to cut through wire and undergrowth. It has also proved an effective psychological deterrentt to enemy personnel at close quarters.
Armour consists of carbon-nanotube reinforced ceramic tiles between two layers of titanium, with an inner layer of flexible aramid-fibre material. The inner layer of titanium carries a very high-voltage electrical charge - any projectile (solid or plasma) penetrating the first two layers will complete the circuit between the two layers of metal, the resulting high-energy discharge deflecting the projectile.
The drive system consists of two hydrogen-gas turbines in the rear of the hull powering electrical motors in the hubs of the road wheels. The tracks are one-piece bands of carbon-reinforced synthetic composite.

Now that's what I call a tank! I love the design, and I see you decided to incorporate the experimental electric reactive armour concept into your tank :D I'm pretty sure that by the time this baby sees production in your fictional setting, the application has been perfected to where it could be used, and probably has an isolated power source to power it, without interfering with the Tank's main source of power. and I love how the main armour itself is made out of carbon nanotube reinforce ceramic tiles. this means that this bitch can take a pounding and still keep on moving! Nice! I wonder though, what kinda payload the machineguns and grenade launchers use. Keep up the great work :)

XD this is awesome. It could easily serve for urban/anti-infantry purposes, the way it's set up. The forward machine gun is perfect for the urban environment, it means you can take out people around corners while only exposing the heavily armored front. The grenade launchers would be good for taking out people in places the cannon can't reach (like people several stories above you), and so would the rear machine gun. It's like...the PERFECT light tank, design wise. 80 *fave*

Hmm... interesting comment about the forward machine gun. I had just imagined it being used for suppressing fire when charging enemy infantry positions, but your "firing round corners" point gives me an idea... I'll let you know when I come up with something.
